If the police shows up when you are with a customer!
It is now forbidden to buy sex in Norway. It is not forbidden to sell sex!
The police has started their work on the streets, in pubs, clubs and restaurants and on the indoor marked, looking for men buying sex. If the police shows up when you are with a customer they will ask you a lot of questions on the spot. They want you to admit that you sell sex and that you have made a deal with the customer. You don’t have to answer any of these questions!
The following are your rights and duties in such a situation:
· You are a witness in the case
· You must show the police ID and papers for your legal stay in Norway. You have to tell them your name, date of birth, where you live and where you work (if you have an ordinary job). That’s all you have to tell them about yourself
· As a witness you don’t have to explain yourself to the police. The police have no right to demand you to answer any questions about the situation. Not at the spot and not later. It is your right not to tell them anything about yourself, the customer and the situation!
· The police can ask you to meet at the police station so they can ask you once again if you would like to give a statement. You have to go to this meeting, but you still don’t have to tell them anything. If you want, you can bring someone with you to the meeting.
· If you would like to give a statement to the police and answer their questions, you can do it on the spot or at a later time, but you have to tell the truth. Don’t lie to the police!
· If the case goes to court, it is your duty to meet as a witness. You will receive a letter about this. Then you have to meet in court and answer any questions with the truth. Don’t lie in court!
